Retaining talent: it matters.
Especially in an industry like finance, where savvy executives are always in high demand, it’s more important than ever that companies have a concerted strategy for attracting (and keeping!) top-tier talent.
The Harvard Business Review recently published an article on developing and retaining top talent.
One thing the article suggests is turning challenges into on-the-job opportunities for upskilling and reskilling.
If an employee struggles with tough communication scenarios, for example, take note of that and think about an exercise that would make the employee feel motivated to improve under your guidance.
The article also points out how important it is to vary learning experiences. If on-the-job learning experiences become predictable and formulaic (as opposed to dynamic and variable in scope and type) they can actually contribute to employees feeling stuck and uninspired.
Even if you’re not a recruiter, read the entire piece. It contains a lot of wisdom.
